Melissa Bartlett

Melissa Bartlett is a distinguished wine professional with over 16 years of experience spanning winery operations, professional judging, and wine education.As an AWS Certified Wine Judge and a Sommelier, Melissa possesses a comprehensive understanding of the wine lifecycle—from vineyard to the glass.She specializes in sensory evaluation and fault identification across Vinifera, Hybrids, Native American varietals, as well as meads, ciders and spirits.

Beyond the tasting glass, she is a dedicated education who has spent years developing curricula and training staff to deliver informed knowledge to the public. Whether judging a major commercial competition or leading a workshop, her goal is to bridge the gap between the technical science of evaluation wine and the consumer’s appreciation of the final pour.Melissa has served as an official judge for prestigious competitions, including Libation Wine, Beer and Spirit Awards, California Bottle Shock, Atlantic Seaboard, WineMaker Magazine, NJ Terroir Showcase and the Finger Lakes International.

Jeanna Boothe

Jeanna is a Certified Wine Judge through the American Wine Society Wine Judge Certification Program.She completed WSET 2 with merit in 2023. Jeanna also completed online certifications through Napa Valley Wine Academy for Cotes du Rhone and Republic of Georgia.Her wine judging got started with an opportunity at the Tennessee State Fair Wine Competition in 2023.Since then, she has judged at Wine Maker Magazine amateur competition in 2024, 2025 and 2026 and Georgia Trustees Wine & Spirts Competition in 2024.She also judged at the Tennessee Viticultural & Oenological Society in 2026.Jeanna has worked with the AWS Amateur and Commercial Competitions helping in the back room and serving as Table Captain at the ‘You Be the Judge’ sessions for the last 2 AWS Conferences.She has served on the American Wine Society National Tasting Project Committee for 2 years working on the Food and Wine Pairings.Jeanna enjoys traveling and particularly likes to travel to wine regions around the world.Wine centric trips include: California, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Chile, Argentina and France. Jeanna has been an active member of the North Alabama Chapter of AWS and is currently serving as the Chapter Chair.

Leigh Boothe

Leigh has been an active member of the American Wine Society (AWS) for the past 10 years and currently serves as AWS Regional Ambassador for the Alabama and Mississippi Region.He is a graduate of the 3 year AWS Wine Judge Certification Program.He has served as the AWS North Alabama Chapter Newsletter Publisher, Facebook Administrator and currently serves as the Education Chair. Through the Wine and Spirits Education Trust, Leigh completed WSET 2 with distinction in 2024.Leigh has since successfully completed the Côtes du Rhône and Republic of Georgia Online Wine Certification Courses with Napa Valley Wine Academy. He served on the AWS National Tasting Project for two years working with Food & Wine Pairings.Leigh has judged wines at the 2023 Tennessee State Fair Wine Competition; 2024, 2025 and 2026 Wine Maker Magazine Competition; and the 2024 Georgia Trustees Wine and Spirits Commercial Competition.He has also worked the backroom at the 2024 AWS Annual Conference for the Commercial and Amateur Wine Competitions; served as Table Captain at the ‘You Be the Judge’ sessions for the 2023 and 2024 AWS Conferences; and worked as a shadow judge for the Commercial and Amateur Wine Competitions at the 2025 AWS Conference.Leigh is an avid wine and food lover, having been studying wine through tastings, classes, and world travels to wine regions.Wine centric trips include: California, New York, Czech Republic, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Chile, Argentina and France.

Carole Hackett

With a background in healthcare, Carole’s undergraduate degree in Biology and Chemistry has been valuable in her wine studies.Her interest in wine has led her to seek further education. She is actively working with students from the Wine Judge Certification Program of the American Wine Society.Carole is a Certified Wine Judge with Merit. Carole remains active in teaching and learning.She has completed continuing education at Penn State, UC Davis, Society of Wine Educators and the American Wine Society conference annually.Carole has presented sessions at the American Wine Society annual conferences in wine continuing education for judges.She has taught beginning classes at the local wine shop. Carole has completed Level 2 of WSET program with Merit.Carole has Sommelier certification from the National Wine School.Carole serves as the Regional Advisor for Eastern Kentucky for the American Wine Society as well as education liaison of the local chapter in Frankfort KY.

Carole enjoys judging amateur and commercial competitions.Her twelve years of judging experience have taken her through much of the USA.Competitions judged include:

Sharyn Kervyn

Sharyn Kervyn de Volkaersbeke holds a diploma with honors from the Wine and Spirit Education Trust (dipWSET), is a Certified Specialist of Wine (CSW) through the Society of Wine Educators and Sommelier through the Court of Master Sommeliers. She is an International OIV and American Wine Society Certified Wine Judge with Merit, judging competitions in America and Europe annually. At London’s International Wine Challenge, she was promoted from Associate to Judge after her first year, a distinction seldom bestowed. Sharyn served on the opening team at the Getty Center Museum in Los Angeles as catering director and has held wine director and general manager positions in California, Philadelphia and New Jersey. Her work in the industry earned features in LA Confidential, Los Angeles Times, and an E Television segment. She has also served as a guest lecturer and conducted wine seminars for various organizations across America and London. Sharyn serves on the national wine education committee for AWS, is the founder of KdV Wine Services, LLC and serves as Director and Head Judge for Terroir New Jersey Wine Showcase. Sharyn also teaches wine education courses she developed for AWS, Rutgers University, and Camden County College (now a CWP Certification Course). Her credentials and extensive experience led to membership in London's esteemed Association of Wine Educators (AWE), and consistent 'Best of' Wine Spectator Awards for her wine lists as the Wine Director for The Capital Grille.

Paula Laurita

Paula Laurita is a Certified Wine Judge with the American Wine Society, backed by WSET Level 2 and Level 1 Sommelier credentials. As the Programs Chair for the North Alabama Wine Society (a chapter of the American Wine Society), she is active in regional wine education and advocacy.

Paula is also the creator of the Facebook column "The Scented Page," where she blends her professional life as a librarian with a passion for wine, literature, and perfumery. She explores the unique intersections of wine, books, and scent.

Scott Montgomery

Scott Montgomery is a graduate of the American Wine Society’s Wine Judge Certification Program (re-certified in 2021), holds a WSET Level 2 Certification (With Distinction) and is an Italian Wine Specialist. He has judged at the American Wine Society Commercial and Amateur Wine Competitions, The Big E Northeast Gold Wine Competition, Wines of the South Wine Competition, Georgia Trustees Wine & Spirits Challenge, Lone Star International Wine Competition, Vino Challenge International, Tennessee Viticultural and Oenological Society amateur wine competition, the Alabama Commercial Wine Competition and the Heartland Wine Competition. He is also the judging coordinator for the Alabama Winemakers and Grape Growers Association amateur wine competition. Scott has won numerous medals for his own homemade wines over the last thirty years. A third-generation Oregonian, Scott and his wife now reside in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Ronald Natalie

Ron is a graduate of the American Wine Society Wine Judge Certification Program and serves as the organization's Vice President.

He is also on the board of the Atlantic Seaboard Wine Association. He serves on the conference committees for both organizations, providing technical expertise for registration and score tabulation.

He is a member of the Knights of the Vine and holds certifications from the Parker-Zraly wine program and the Wine and Spirits Education Trust. He is an American Cider Association Certified Cider Guide.

He lives in North Carolina with his equally wine-enthusiastic wife.

Kevin Ostrowski

Kevin is a former high school chemistry, physics, and math teacher, a retired QA/QC nuclear utility executive and currently the American Wine Society’s (AWS)Director of Education and Chapter Chair of the AWS Beaver County, PA, chapter. An AWS Certified Wine Judge with merit (CWJM), Kevin is a Certified Specialist of Wine (CSW) with the Society of Wine Educators, holds a Wine and Spirits Education Trust (WSET) Level 3 Award in Wine and Spirits (with Merit), has a Wine Scholar Guild Master Level Champagne Certificate, has completed level 1 Sommelier with the Court of Master Sommeliers, and is PLCB RAMP certified. He has enjoyed the privilege of judging many local and regional wine competitions. An Instructor for AWS Wine Judge Certification Training, he is also a wine instructor for Butler County Community College in Butler, PA and has taught the AWS Super Tasters Class.A home wine maker, he has won several medals from both AWS and WineMaker magazine. Kevin is a member of The Wine Century Club, GuildSomm, the Society of Wine Educators, the Wine Scholar Guild, and the Pennsylvania Wine Society. Kevin Resides in Beaver, PA.

Rick Schofield

Rick Schofield, CWE, is a wine buyer, consultant, and educator based in Glenmont, NY, with nearly two decades of experience in both on- and off-premise wine programs. His career includes leadership roles such as Head Sommelier at Sagamore Resort, Beverage Director at the Culinary Institute of America, and Fine Wine Manager at Viscount Wine and Liquor, along with sommelier experience at Mission Hill Family Estate Winery. He is the owner of Schofield Wine School at The Rhinecliff Hotel and a frequent speaker at national conferences for the American Wine Society and the Society of Wine Educators.

He holds advanced certifications including Advanced Sommelier with the Court of Master Sommeliers, Certified Wine Educator (CWE), and multiple international educator accreditations from the Bureau Interprofessionnel des Vins de Bourgogne (BIVB) and the Conseil Interprofessionnel du Vin de Bordeaux (CIVB), as well as WSET Advanced with Distinction. He is also a certified wine judge with extensive national and international judging experience, including major competitions in the U.S., U.K., and Canada.

Barry J. St. Pierre

Barry St.Pierre has been growing grapes and making wine for several years at his home in Burlington, CT.His vineyard includes a variety of vinifera and hybrid grapes.His award-winning wines are made from his own grapes as well as carefully selected grapes from California and Chile, and he is considered among the top amateur winemakers by the American Wine Society.

As a Certified Wine Judge he participates at many state, regional, and national commercial and amateur competitions. He had been an instructor for the American Wine Society Wine Judge Certification Program for several years and served as a Regional Vice President of the American Wine Society. He has also passed both WSET 2 and WSET 3.

Jeffrey Stabins

Jeff Stabins is an AWS certified wine judge with merit 2 and has a WSET level 3 certification. He is on the Board of the Raise A Glass Foundation, a not for profit organization that runs wine, spirits, beer and cider competitions for charity. Jeff is the Head Judge of the Great American International Wine Competition. In 2018, along with his wife Nancy, he was voted AWS Regional Vice President of the year. Jeff has enjoyed judging many wine competitions in the US and Europe over the past 18 years.

Nancy Stabins

Nancy Stabins is a Certified Specialist of Wine (Society of Wine Educators) with WSET II certification and a background in nursing and holistic health as the former owner of Natural Alternatives, Inc. She is based in Webster, NY.

She has been actively involved in wine education and competition administration for many years, including service as AWS Education Committee Secretary (2021–2023) and Past Regional Vice President for New York, where she was recognized as Outstanding VP in 2018. She currently serves as Director of Judge Logistics and Judge Room Coordinator and Board Member for the Texas International Wine Competition, as well as Communications Director and Advisory Board Member for the Great American International Wine Competition.

Her competition experience includes judge room coordination, backroom operations, and judging roles for events such as the New York State Craft Beer Competition, Massachusetts State Fair Wine Competition, Garden State Wine Challenge, Hudson Valley Wine & Food Festival Wine Competition, and the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo Wine Competition. She has also contributed to the American Wine Society Wine Competition and other national and international events.

She has represented the American Wine Society internationally, including engagements in Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Germany, and Austria, and is a member of the Rochester Home Winemakers (2016–2020).

Vincent D. Williams

Vincent Williams is the American Wine Society’s Director of Competitions and has received their Certified Wine Judge with Merit designation.By day he’s a mild manner cybersecurity specialist for the Department of the Air Force.By night a wine educator.As a wine educator, Mr. Williams enjoys sharing wine knowledge with retail customers and students.He holds certifications from the Society of Wine Educators, the Wine and Spirits Educational Trust, and the Wine Scholars Guild.Additionally, he has completed the certificate program in Winemaking from the University of California-Davis, to improve his suggestions to winemakers.He enjoys learning more and more about wine.
