This is a one day contest to be held on Thursday, September 27th at the Eastern States Exposition in the New England Center. You may register in advance or the day of the contest from 10:00 am to 3:30 pm in the New England Center. Entries may be limited by Creative Arts Department management.

Accuracy launching will be from 10:30 am to 5:00 pm.

All exhibitors submitting a registration form and an entry will receive a ribbon.

Participants may bring their own planes made by the individuals launching them that are subject to inspection by the Creative Arts department. Materials will be available the day of the contest to construct and decorate your paper airplane for use in the New England Center:8 ½ x 11 inch paper, glue, tape, scissors, rulers, pencils.

Entries must be picked up by 6:00 pm the day of the contest, or will be discarded at the discretion of Creative Arts director.

You may enter the day of the contest. Youth must have parent signature to enter.

Paper planes must only be constructed out of one piece of paper, no larger than 8 ½ x 11 inches.

No metal, ceramics, plastics, composites

Tape and glue are OK.

The aircraft must be launched by one person who made the plane, throwing the aircraft unaided from behind a straight line marked on the floor. Throwers may not move beyond the throw line unless instructed to by the organizers of the contest.

Top results from the accuracy contest will be posted in the New England Center throughout the day. The top 3 will be on The Big E website.

For Accuracy: The participant must launch their plane and have it pass through a hoop. The distance from the location of where the plane stops after passing through the hoop will be measured from the nose of the plane to the target marked on the floor. The measurement will be in feet and inches.

Spectators will not be allowed in the launching areas.

Entries and participants may be photographed – photos may be used by show sponsors for promotional purposes. The photos become the property of The Big E.

Work must be that of the individual crafter exhibiting – no team entries.

Entries must be submitted with exhibitor’s name, address and phone number to be eligible for prizes

With entry submission, you accept all contest rules and agree to be bound by the judges’ decision, which will be final.

Taxes are the responsibility of the winner.


The judges’ decision will be final.

  • Accuracy: The winners will be the 3 contestants whose airplane’s nose stops closest to the center of the target after having passed through the hoop.

The Big E will make an effort to have checks available at time of release; occasionally, circumstances will not allow this. Checks will then be mailed in a timely fashion to the exhibitor. Eastern States Exposition assumes no responsibility for premium checks once they are presented to the exhibitor. All checks must be cashed and missing checks reported prior to December 31, 2018. After January 1, 2019, the show’s books are closed and protests are not valid.
