“Lovewhip may be our answer to Prince, except it’s a funky, electro-jam with a female guitar-slinging mastermind!” –Cheap Thrills Boston.
“More fun than a truckload of Cyndi Laupers!” –Portland Press Herald
“A mash up of all the world’s most danceable music, from electro to Afro-beat, to reggaeton and post-punk” –Weekly Dig
Lovewhip’s music has been called an “irresistible party soundtrack”, and their catchy songs weave global dance rhythms with 80’s dance music, psychedelic rock, reggae and funk – think if Debbie Harry lead the Talking Heads and played guitar like Jimi Hendrix on a Caribbean cruise! You may have heard Lovewhip’s song “Wrecking Machine” on SHOWTIME’s hit TV show “Shameless”!
The original dance band, which has released 5 critically acclaimed albums, is lead by award-winning singer/songwriter/producer and internationally renowned guitarist Erin Harpe and her musical collaborator, husband/bass player Jim Countryman. The busy pair also founded boogie blues band Erin Harpe & the Delta Swingers (which has three albums out on the VizzTone label), and recently won “2021 Album of the Year” for their latest acoustic duo release, MEET ME IN THE MIDDLE, from the New England Music Awards!
In Lovewhip, “Empress” Erin brings out the psychedelic side of her guitar playing (Liz from Liz Bills & the Change called her “a freakin’ goddess guitar wizard master”), while “Juicy” Jim adds deep electro/afrobeat/dub bass, and Shawn “Shawny Hammersticks” Meehan provides infectious dance beats.
