Storrowton and

The Civil War

Tuesday, May 28

6:00pm

Storrowton Village will present an interactive, educational storytelling

tour set during theCivil War,

offering an inside look at how folks

in the Northeast coped with both

the war and the absence of

the men who were called to duty or

joined the patriotic fervor

You will meet townspeople and hear their personal stories and points of view -

witness an abolitionist's anti-slavery speech, hear a blacksmith speak of how the increase in manufacturing during the war has impacted his life, and gain

insight into the women's efforts to support the troops by sewing and making clothing

Stop in at the General Store for a conversation about the separation of the southern states, lack of cotton textiles, and how suppliers and consumers from both the North and the South are affected

At the Gilbert House you will have

the opportunity to experience one

family's preparation for the wake of a family member who died while in

service to his country

This program is the perfect venue for

those who are interested in American

and Civil War history and want to

learn more about what life was like

during this period

Give your child an opportunity

to experience

a 19th century lifestyle!

This program is designed to offer kids an intimate knowledge of the daily life of children long ago and is lots of fun -

as well as providing an educational experience they'll love!

After putting on their old-fashioned clothing, children are immersed in the chores, lessons, and games that

were the norm in the 1800s

such as weaving, dipping candles,

writing with a quill pen and ink,

hoop rolling, and boat races

They will also be instructed in the art of milking a farm animal and using the milk to make butter and cheese

Additional activites include herbal lore,

blacksmithing, fireplace cooking, an afternoon of song and dance, journaling, and a variety of crafts and games

that will keep them challenged and engaged

For children ages 7 - 12
