STORROWTON VILLAGE MUSEUM MIXES FUN AND EDUCATION AT "EARLY AMERICAN SUMMER DAYS"
Now that school is out, plan an exciting, educational experience for your child this summer. Storrowton Village Museum's Early American Summer Days is an educationally-based experience for children ages 7-12 that adds a healthy dose of fun. It's time to register your children for this unique summer activity. Reservations are being accepted for sessions held August 3-7 or August 10-14.
Children participate in a hands-on approach to learning about life in an early New England village. The cost is $140 for either week and early registration discounts are available.
Each week consists of five days of activities, crafts and games in the setting of historic Storrowton Village. Each day has its own unique schedule of activities. To add to the realism of the experience, children dress in 19th-century inspired clothing (supplied) while participating in the program.
Along with getting acquainted with the other children, the first day offers the opportunity to delve into the Early American experience. Children will recreate the roles of their early American predecessors and learn about life in New England in the 1800s. Other activities during these sessions include writing on slate in a one-room schoolhouse, apprenticing in the Blacksmith Shop, playing hoop and sack games of the era and writing with quill pens.
Kids roll their sleeves up and learn about dairy products first-hand by milking a cow and churning butter. The fun continues with singing and dancing to live music of the 19th century as well as storytelling by a 19th-century character.
Children join in carding and spinning wool, weaving cloth from fiber, playing old fashioned games and dipping candles. They will pay a visit to the historic homes, workshops and herb garden of Storrowton Village and hear a bit of Early American lore.
Each Friday, to conclude the week's adventure, entertainment and education, children get to share what they've learned with their peers. Parents are welcome to watch their children perform a skit on stage, take a guided tour of the Village and witness their child's newly learned crafts and skills.

Storrowton Village Museum, an educational arm of Eastern States Exposition, presents hands-on school programs and guided tours of its historic buildings throughout the year as well as seasonal 19th century-themed events. It is the site of Storrowton Tavern/Carriage House and Storrowton Village Museum Gift Shop and is a picturesque, popular site for weddings held in its Meetinghouse and Gazebo.
