THE OCEAN STATE AT THE BIG E'S AVENUE OF STATES

The Avenue of States, showcasing the best of each New England state, is one of the most popular attractions at The Big E in West Springfield, Mass. A replica of Newport, Rhode Island's Old Statehouse sits along the broad avenue offering fairgoers a unique opportunity to tour its finest destinations, sample its most delectable foods and shop for Rhode Island-made crafts and native goods.

Rhode Island Day is Tuesday, September 22, when the Ocean State will put its best foot forward for fairgoers from throughout New England. From the best Rhode Island products and foods to musical performances and special guests, there will be something for everyone at the Fair. Special indoor activities include RI Historian David Ely, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and Story Lady Jeanne Donato, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Outdoor activities feature the AVENUE A band, 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. on stage and square dancers, noon -2 p.m., on the lawn. Several high school bands will perform on the street in front of the Rhode Island Building including Portsmouth, 3:00 p.m.; Hendricken, 3:20 p.m.; Mt. Hope, 3:40 p.m.; Scituate, 4:00 p.m.; and Middletown, 4:20 p.m.  Marching bands and contingents march in The Big E Daily Parade at 5 p.m.
