THE GRANITE STATE AT THE BIG E'S AVENUE OF STATES

The Avenue of States, showcasing the best of each New England state, is one of the most popular attractions at The Big E in West Springfield, Mass. A replica of New Hampshire's original capitol sits along the broad avenue offering fairgoers a unique opportunity to tour its finest destinations, sample mouth-watering foods and shop for New Hampshire made crafts and native goods.

New Hampshire Day is Friday, September 25, when the Granite State puts its best foot forward for fairgoers from throughout New England. From the finest New Hampshire products and foods to musical performances and special guests, there will be something for everyone at the Fair. Marching bands and contingents featuring historical reenactors Steve Blunt and Amy Conley and Andover Unicycles perform in The Big E Daily Parade at 5 p.m.

Performances and activities on the front lawn of the New Hampshire Building on the state's special day include: a historical musical reenactment with Steve Blunt and Amy Conley, 10:30 a.m.; the Keene Cheshiremen Barbershop Singers, 11:30 a.m.; Phil Fletcher and the Westernaires band, 12:30 p.m.; the Ameranouche Jazz band, 2 p.m.; a street performance by Andover Unicycles, 3:15 p.m.; Civil War era music from the Newmont Military Band, 3:45 p.m. and the Black Bear Moon Rhythm Ensemble, 5:30 p.m. Catch a performance of the Monadnock Mavericks Line Dance Team in back of the building and watch a demo of covered bridge timber frame construction.

Fairtime exhibitors include: CritterGear, Concord; Fudge Folks, Mirror Lake; Hall's Clothing Inc., Dublin; Harvest Thyme Herbs, Dublin; McMaster Weaving, Barrington; Mount Moosilauke Candies, Woodsville; the New Hampshire Lottery Commission, Concord; New Hampshire Maple Producers Association, Acworth; Peggy Anne's Quilting & Sewing Company, Concord; Ripple Pottery LLC, Rumney; That Soap Guy, Troy; The Paw Pantry, Tilton; Toadstool Design, New Boston; and Write On!, Plaistow.

Special performances and presentations on the New Hampshire Stage throughout the Fair include: the Crunchy Western Boys band, Sept. 18; Island Pond Spinners, Sept. 19; Irish music and step dancing by Reaganta, Sept. 20; Americana music from Rob Oxford, Sept. 26; the Cardigan Mountain Tradition band, Sept. 27; a Folk performance by Susie Burke and David Surette, Oct. 2; Folk/Jazz by Rich Hamilton, Oct. 3; and Folk, Jazz and Blues from the Off the Cuff band, Oct. 4. Demonstrations of Russian Nesting Dolls, Sept. 21; Wood Turning, Sept. 22-24; Fabric Arts, Sept. 25; Chair Caning, Sept. 28; Shaker Boxes, Sept. 29 and 30; Fabric Arts & Toys, Oct. 1; will also be presented.
