THE GRANITE STATE AT THE BIG E'S AVENUE OF STATES
The Avenue of States, showcasing the best of each New England state, is one of the most popular attractions at The Big E in West Springfield, Mass. A replica of each state's original capitol sits along the broad avenue offering fairgoers a unique opportunity to tour its finest destinations, sample mouth-watering foods and shop for New Hampshire made crafts and native goods.
New Hampshire Day is Friday, September 19, when the Granite State puts its best foot forward for fairgoers from throughout New England. From the finest New Hampshire products and foods to musical performances and special guests, there will be something for everyone at the Fair. Marching bands and contingents perform in The Big E Daily Parade at 5 p.m.
Performances and activities on the front lawn of the New Hampshire Building on the state's special day include: Dickens Christmas Carolers, Alton, at 10 a.m.; Canterbury UCC Choir, Canterbury, at 11 a.m.; The Lyme Town Band, one of the oldest town bands in New Hampshire, at noon; New England Square Dance Demonstrations by the Square Dance Foundation of New England at 1 p.m.; Off the Cuff, a semi-acoustic instrumental and vocal quartet from Dublin, at 2 p.m.; puppeteer Diane Kordas, Weare, at 3 p.m.; magician B.J. Hickman, Hampton, at 4 p.m. and The Tall Granite Jazz Band at 5:30 p.m. Abraham Lincoln, played by Steve Wood of Claremont, will be in the New Hampshire Building visiting with guests and telling about his own trip to the Granite State many years ago. On New Hampshire Day and the following day, Explore the Ocean World, a special hands-on marine science education program presented by Ellen Goethel of Hampton, featuring live ocean animals.
Fairtime exhibitors include American Traditional Designs, Northwood; CritterGear, Concord; Fudge Folks, Mirror Lake; Hall's Clothing Inc., Dublin; Harvest Thyme Herbs, Dublin; Mount Moosilauke Candies, Woodsville; the New Hampshire Lottery Commission; New Hampshire Maple Producers Association; Purrfect Pastimes, Nashua; Ripple Pottery LLC, Rumney; That Soap Guy, Troy; The Paw Pantry, Tilton; Toadstool Design, New Boston; Village Square, Durham; and Write On!, Plaistow.
Look for New Hampshire-made foods showcased on New England Specialty Foods Day, Friday, Sept. 26, on the front lawn and chose from some of the finest New England products straight from New Hampshire.
