THE BAY STATE AT THE BIG E'S AVENUE OF STATES
The Avenue of States, showcasing the best of each New England state, is one of the most popular attractions at The Big E in West Springfield, Mass. A replica of each state's original capitol sits regally along the broad avenue. The Massachusetts Building offers fairgoers a unique opportunity to tour the state's finest destinations, sample its most delectable foods and shop for Massachusetts-made crafts and native goods.
Massachusetts Day is Thursday, September 18, when the Bay State puts its best foot forward for fairgoers from throughout New England. The state's special day will include a presentation of Massachusetts Calendar Photo Contest winners and the top winners of the Massachusetts Dairy Industry Promotion Coloring Contest at 1 p.m., and entertainment from Laura Bryna, Country music artist and spokesperson for the Air National Guard, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. on the front lawn stage. In addition to the 30 Mass. Building exhibitors, about 25 more businesses will be on display on the front lawn. The Mass. Agriculture license plate, Betsy the Cow, will also be available for photos throughout the day. Massachusetts high schools and other marching bands, Miss Massachusetts, Alicia Zitka, and state police, DCR/Smokey Bear and antique farm truck contingents will appear in The Big E Daily Parade at 5 p.m.
Fairtime exhibitors include: Granville Cheese; Ooh La La Fudge; Paper City Brewery of Holyoke; Charlemont Inn; Kettle Korn Express; Koffee Cup Bakery; Finn Cakes; Thorndike Mills of Palmer; Soft as a Grape Clothing of Wareham; Hampden County Bee Keepers Association of Florence; Western Massachusetts Master Gardners Association; Massachusetts Federation of Farmers Markets; Walk Your Dog of Lanesboro; B.E.S. Specialties of Rehoboth; Sturbridge Yankee Peddler; Whip City Candle Company; and New England Apple Association of Hatfield. In addition, several state organizations will be represented including: Massachusetts Agriculture in the Classroom; Massachusetts Association of Campground Owners of Southwick; Massachusetts Dairy Industry of Orange; Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources; Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation; Massachusetts Maple Producers Association of Ashfield.; Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism of Boston; Massachusetts State Grange of North Brookfield; Massachusetts State Police of Northampton; Massachusetts State Treasurer's Office of Boston; Massachusetts Conservation Districts of Worcester; and Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency of Agawam.
