FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- West Springfield, Mass.
STORROWTON VILLAGE MUSEUM WILL GLIMMER WITH LANTERN LIGHT TOURS
Storrowton Village Museum will be awash in the glimmer of candlelight when the annual evening program, Yuletide by Lantern Light, is presented Wednesday, Dec. 5 from 6 - 8 p.m. in the historic Village on the grounds of Eastern States Exposition in West Springfield, Mass.
Experience a winter evening of yesteryear and the magic of an old fashioned holiday on a tour of Storrowton's cozy homes and buildings illuminated by lanterns and candlelight. The tour includes live 19th century demonstrations of fireplace cooking in the Gilbert Farmstead and blacksmithing in the stone Blacksmith Shop.
The Village's historic buildings have been draped in holiday splendor through the generosity of several area garden clubs, florists and designers who have donated their time, expertise and materials. Participating clubs and florists include: Agawam Garden Club, Gilbert House Sitting Room; Floral Concepts by Tom, Gilbert House Kitchen; East Longmeadow Garden Club, The Eddy Law Office; Flowers by Webster, Potter Mansion Dining Room; Grandmothers Garden of Westfield, Union Meetinghouse; Merry Mite Gardens (Suffield, Conn.), Potter Mansion Kitchen; West Springfield Garden Club, Schoolhouse; Garden Club of the Westfield Woman's Club, Potter Mansion Parlor; Bloomin' Bunch of Conn., Gilbert House Parlor; The Master Gardeners of Storrowton who will coordinate the entire decorating project and adorn the Gilbert House Entry and Blacksmith Shop; Eastern States Exposition Landscape Department, Village Gazebo and exterior wreaths; and area decorator Pat Byrne who will create Della Robia Fruit Boards for the Potter Mansion exterior.
Yuletide week also includes Open House Tours through Dec. 8, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the historic Village.
Storrowton Village was the brainchild of Helen O. Storrow, an area philanthropist and Exposition trustee. She gathered 18th & 19th century buildings from throughout the region which were dismantled, brought here and reconstructed around a picturesque green. The Village was completed in 1930 and is a living history museum offering tours and programs for the general public.
Holiday gifts, decorations and Yankee Candles will be sold at the Storrowton Village Gift Shop in the Phillips House and the Christmas Shop in Potter Mansion during all Yuletide events and activities. The Storrowton Village Gift Shop is also open Mon. - Fri., 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. plus Sat., 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. through December.
