NEW! Creative Arts Show & Competition at The Big E

Join The Creative Arts Show at The Big E
Do you have outstanding crafting skills? If so, The Big E invites you to join its annual showcase of arts & handcrafts, Creative Arts, in the New England Center Sept. 14-30.

If you are skilled in sewing, quilting, knitting, crocheting, beading, decorative painting on fabric or hand weaving, this is a great opportunity to show off your talents. Participants can enter in a number of general craft divisions or choose to create something within our special theme, "Celebration of the Performing Arts." All crafters are welcome and volunteers are encouraged to participate.

What is Creative Arts?
This year's new "Creative Arts" department has been established at The Big E to increase and broaden the scope of artistic competition. The Creative Arts Show was formed to showcase various handcrafts to the public, made by the public. This event will re-define and replace "CraftAdventure," the longstanding August event, and be incorporated into the framework of The Big E. Sarah Wanczyk, who joined the staff in late March, is the coordinator of the event and the New England Center.

2007 Special Theme: A Celebration of the Performing Arts 2007!
This year's theme is Celebrating the Performing Arts, featuring fourteen categories along with a special employee exhibition. Categories include; spinning, knitting, rug making, hand weaving, beading, basketry, fashion sewing and more! Crafters are also able to enter in general categories that are not themed. All patrons may submit up to 3 entries, with a fee of $5 per entry. Participants can enter in any three categories they choose; themed, general or a combination of the two.

Judging for this event will take place Sept. 10 and all entries will be on display in the New England Center during the Fair, Sept. 14-30. A public awards presentation will take place Sunday, Sept. 30 at 4 p.m.

The exhibit will be located along the East wall of the New England Center. Displays will be judged on three major aspects including; general appearance, workmanship and finishing. Each item is judged and evaluated on its own merit. In the future, categories will be expanded beyond fabric and fiber arts to include new media.
