Purpose

To promote and encourage excellence in the FFA through development of outstanding scholarship, leadership and supervised agricultural experiences.

To recognize Eastern States winners in the following areas:                       

Star Farmer -achievement in a production agriculture SAE
Star Agribusiness-achievement in an agribusiness of SAE
Star Agricultural Placement-achievement in an agricultural placement SAE, either at an agribusiness or production enterprise
Star Agriscience-excellence in an agriscience-based SAE (natural resources, research/experimentation or science-based lab).This program may be either placement or entrepreneurial.

Objective

To recognize youth in the Eastern Region who have achieved the Star Awards in their respective States in this current year.

To educate the fair going public to the fact that agriculture and agribusiness is a vibrant part of the Eastern Region.

To promote the work of agriculturists in the Eastern Region of the FFA.

Event Rules

1.    Applicant must have received the Star Award in their respective state in the applied category.

2.    Application shall include in the following order:                                                         

                a.    Big E FFA Stars Recognition Application
                b.    American Degree Application
                c.    Resume

4.    Applicant must be in attendance at The Big E on Saturday, September 17, 2011 for the program.

5.    Applicant may not compete in any other Big E FFA competition on September 17, 2011. This event may also conflict with other competitions outside of FFA. Star applicants must attend all Star events.

6.    Candidate must wear official FFA Dress.

Format

1.             Each candidate will meet the judges in an informal interview on the morning of September 17, 2011 to further clarify the applicants program and records at 8 a.m. at the Grange Building.  

2.             Teams of judges are selected to judge this event.  They will each review copies of each candidate's application and records. 

3.             Candidates will be available for publicity pictures with the sponsor at 11 a.m. 

4.             Candidates, parents, advisors and special guests are invited to a FFA Stars Recognition Luncheon a 12 noon on the fairgrounds. 

5.             The Star Award ceremony will take place before a large audience of fairgoers at approximately 3 pm

6.             All candidates are urged to attend the FFA Awards Recognition Program at 6pm at the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Springfield, MA.
