2/06/06 - Wine Competition Added to 2006 Agriculture Line Up

For Immediate Release

February 06, 2006

The Agriculture and Education Department is thrilled to announce the latest addition to our event list for 2006 - The Big E Gold Northeastern Wine Competition.

We have been studying the changing dynamics of local agriculture and believe that The Big E will be the perfect place to showcase local wines to our patrons, illustrating the outstanding quality and phenomenal values available. All vinifera, hybrid and native grape wines, meads, fruit wines and fortified wines are eligible to enter. Entries are being solicited across New England and New York.

The Big E Gold Northeastern Wine Competition will take place May 27, 2006. Entries in each class will compete for Champion, Reserve Champion, and blue, red and yellow ribbon prizes. Medals will be awarded to the winning wines in the Gold, Silver and Bronze categories. Champion and Reserve Champion Wines will be then eligible to compete for highest honors as Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion wine, Best All-Around Winery, Best State Wine and Best Value Wine.

The competition will be administered in conjunction with the Amenti del Vino wine society, headed by wine aficionado, Gene Spaziani. Amenti del Vino is the oldest wine society in the Northeast and assists other wine competitions across the country. They currently work with the Pennsylvania Commercial Wine Competition, Colorado Mountain Winefest and Amenti del Vino International Wine Competition, among others.

Entries must be submitted by May 15, 2006 to participate. Winning wineries will be invited to participate in The Big E which will be held September 15 - October 2, 2006.
